Regional virtual conference "How to win the Balkan air pollution dodgeball?"
Air pollution in Serbia, and in the entire Balkans, is one of the most urgent environmental and health issues that will further worsen the effects of climate change with longer periods of temperature inversion during the heating seasons.
According to the report of the European Environment Agency from 2019, 13,700 premature deaths caused by particulate pollution (PM2.5) have been documented in Serbia. When it comes to years of life lost due to PM2.5 pollution, that number in Serbia is as high as 135,800.
We are inviting you to join us in a two-day regional virtual conference under the name “How to win the Balkan air-pollution dodgeball?”
The conference will bring together the leading stakeholders from governments, interested companies, civil society organisations and international development partners who are brought together in their quest for solutions in improving air quality in our region.
This conference is a unique opportunity to learn that you are not alone and that others have already found workable solutions. Instead of dodging the ball (read: responsibility), the time has come to agree on how to dodge air pollution.
These topics will be addressed during the conference:
Day one: Thursday, 3 December 2020 (9.30-15.30)
“Team households”: How to replace inefficient heating and cooking devices in households?
Day two: Friday, 4 December 2020 (9.30-13.30)
“Team electricity”: Thermal power plants: When do we phase out coal?
Please find attached the agenda and the list of speakers for first and second day of the conference.
In the first day of this conference one of the speakers will be Mr Matej Gasperič, Senior Air Quality Expert, IPA Project "EU for a Better Environment" with presentation on Air quality projections in Serbia until 2030.
The languages of the conference are BHS and English, with simultaneous translation provided for all participants. For more information about the conference visit: http://dvevatre.resfoundation.org/en
